Family receiving my notifications. How can I make it stop?

Both my mother and father are receiving notifications in my name about my activity on my watch/phone. We do not share an Apple ID and I have activity sharing disabled on my phone and watch. How can I make it stop?

We all updated to iOS16.1 before this issue started. I would like to be sure they don’t have access to my phone and other notifications.

Hi Chris_V89

I actually haven’t enabled any kind of sharing on my phone or watch. My fathers phone used to be mine and my mothers watch is my old watch as well. They’ve both been using them for over a year and this issue just started in the last few weeks. We don’t share email or Apple IDs. We did all updates to the latest iOS right before this started.

Hey there Oliviabbur,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, when you say that you disabled Activity sharing on your iPhone and Apple Watch, did you mute the notifications, hide your progress, or did you remove your mother and father from the Sharing tab in the Fitness app?

If you muted notifications, this would only mute shared Activity notifications you receive from other friends. To stop sending notifications to your friends, you would either want to hide your progress, or remove the contacts from the Sharing tab in the Fitness app.

Check out this link for more details: Share your Activity and compete with friends with your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Stop sharing
If you want to stop sharing, you can mute notifications, hide your progress, or remove a friend.

Mute notifications
1. Open the Fitness app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the Sharing tab, then tap your friend.
3. Tap Mute Notifications. To get notifications again, tap Unmute Notifications.

Hide your progress
1. Open the Fitness app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the Sharing tab, then tap the friend that you want to hide your activity from.
3. Tap Hide my Activity. You can still see your friend's activity, but they won't see your activity. You can't hide your activity from a friend that you're competing with.
4. To start sharing again, tap Show my Activity.

Remove a friend
1. Open the Fitness app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the Sharing tab, then tap your friend.
3. Tap Remove Friend. After you remove a friend, they can't see your activity, and you can't see their activity. To start sharing again, send your friend a new invite.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care!
