Apple clock timer alarm signal fails to sound occasionally. Sometimes it sounds; sometimes it doesn't.

Hello KenOhrn,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps, found in the article that you reviewed before posting here, may help troubleshoot your alarm issues:

"If the alarm volume is too low or quiet

Do Not Disturb and the Ring/Silent switch don't affect the alarm sound. If you set your Ring/Silent switch to Silent or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm still sounds.

If you have an alarm that doesn't sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume button up or down to adjust it. You can also go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringtone and Alert Volume.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarm tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm plays at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones.

Manually adjusting the time on your iPhone in Settings to change app behavior, like game timers, isn't recommended and can affect alarms."

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? When did you first notice this? Does this happen with all alarm sounds? Also, what is your exact iOS version?

Cheers!

Hello KenOhrn,

We know that hearing your alarms is important and we can certainly help you find out what could be muting your alarm clock alerts. Do you notice this issue with every alarm that you set? If you set a new alarm to test with, does the same thing happen? Also, do you have any other Apple devices like an Apple Watch or Mac?

Also, just to be sure we rule out simple solutions, have you tried restarting the device normally? If not, let's give it a shot, and see if that helps. Here's how to restart your iPhone:

Let us know if that helps. Kind regards.

Hi: I have just had 3 alarm sound fails in a row.

  1. Set "timer" to 0 hrs 5 min 00 seconds
  2. Note that Settings / Display & Brightness / Autolock is set to 5 minutes
  3. Start timer
  4. At elapsed time 4:40, screen goes black. Timer fails. Repeat 3 times.
  5. Set timer to 0 hrs 4 min 30 sec, start timer
  6. At end of timer period, alarm sounds.
  7. Cancel alarm using pop-up banner
  8. Repeat -- alarm sounds
