External display and accessories not connecting after waking macbook from sleep

Ever since I upgraded to Ventura, whenever I would wake my 13in intel macbook pro from sleep, it would not connect to my external monitor and wired keyboard until after I disconnect them and reconnect. Before upgrading, it worked perfectly. My macbook doesn't have the setting "Allow accessories to connect" that the silicon macbooks have that other people have suggested. Anything else I can do?

Hello KevinLotus,

We recommend following the guidance listed in the following user guide for USB issues. Test after each step to see if the behavior persists: If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support

Another step that can help you isolate is safe mode. "Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility."

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Cheers.

This is driving me crazy, honestly. I use a hub for my external peripherals, and every time I open my Macbook pro after sleep and log in, the external monitor does not have a signal.

I go to Displays -- and it shows the monitor there. But I haven't been able to find a way to get it to actually connect without rebooting the system -- which is super annoying because any windows I left up on the external monitor are still there, unavailable, and I have no way of closing apps that are prompting for save/discard/is it ok to close.

I hope they fix this soon!

(also running Ventura, but in my case it's an M1 chip so I don't think this is just an issue with the Intel)
