Apple News crashes
Lately my Apple News app has been crashing soon after I open it?
It is the only app on the device that is doing this.
Any possible diagnoses?

The Apple News app crashing issue appears to be a currently growing issue under iPadOS 16.1.
Currently, there is no fix from Apple, as yet.
You can submit product/feature/software feedback, directly to Apple, by using the following feedback links below.
In the meantime, try this advice/possible solution.
First.
Delete the Apple News app from your iPad.
Then Second.
For iPad models with a Home button, do a simple hard reset/forced restart of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake/power button simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.
OR
For much newer design iPad models, without a Home button, try the new simple hard reset/forced restart procedure for the new 2018-2022 iPad Pros, 2020/21 iPad Air 4 and 5, the 2021 iPad Mini 6 models and the new 2022,,10th gen base models,
1. Press and release the volume button closest to the top Power button
2. Then immediately press and release the volume button farthest from the top Power button.
3. Then, press and hold the top single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.
Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018-2022 iPad will boot up completely to the iPad’s Lock screen.
Third.
Re-install the Apple News app from the iOS App Store.
See what happens.
Best of Luck to You!
Apple News on my 6th generation iPad consistently crashes every few minutes, even when I am in the middle of a page. It has been doing this for the last year or more, and no solutions suggested give sustained improvement. Two weeks ago I reviewed the issue with Apple Support on line. It worked for a short while but soon reverted.
I have the latest update to iOS, the latest version of Apple News. I have reloaded Apple News, restarted iPad, and, finally, deleted and reloaded iOS. Apple Support suggested Reset Identifier. I also did that to no long term effect.
Any suggestions, or is this just bad software from Apple? Today it seems even worse crashing about every minute. And on restart, not only does it not take me back to where I was, sometimes the article I was reading has disappeared. Up until today, News seemed stable on my iPhone, but today that also crashed.
Guess I was just lucky.
I followed advice to delete the app, then restart my 6th generation by holding
both the home button and the shut down button. After the reboot I downloaded
the app from the app store. So far it is working fine.
None of that works, I have the same problem as others (only on my iPad). I've spent a ton of time on the phone with Apple Support which has elevated this to the engineer level. They shared my screen with me and got to witness it spontaneously closing within minutes of opening.
On Tuesday 13/12/22 Apple released iOS and iPad OS16.2. Still suffering from the Apple News persistent crashes on my 9.7” iPad Pro (no issues with iPhone) I had nothing to loose so decided to update.
** Working on my theory that as Apple News is supposedly packaged with the OS I first of all uninstalled the News app but did not reinstall.**
**I then installed iPad OS 16.2. The process was faultless but Apple News did not install as part of the process so I accessed it via the App Store.**
Again there is no indication of the version number as with other Apple packaged Apps. I dually reinstalled the News app which was also faultless and on completion opened it. It was slightly slow to load up but then worked without crashing. This was without having my topics set up. Having copied a list of my topics I then populated the app with these half expecting the crashing problem to recur due to my extensive list but am pleased to report it is now working as before OS16.1xx
So I presume a fix is now in place either with the News App and/or the OS update.
I just wish Apple would communicate with their users as a group when issues such as this occur. Many thanks to those who have reported the issue to Apple per se and hope the problem has resolved for yourselves. I am however sorry to learn that some of you are still having problems after the update.

Many thanks for alerting us to this upgrade. I took the steps you mentioned, and News is now working much better. However - it is not flawless - I've had two crashes this week. Also, upgraders should be aware that Apple News seems to delete your catalog of magazines so you will need to select again.
Also - Since December 1, news feeds from the Seattle Times have disappeared. No announcement from Apple. I wonder if other local newspapers have gone?
@gjji
Pleased that this has helped. As you say the problem is that you loose all your selected topics. Before I took the step I made screen dumps of my list and used this to repopulate the app but it is a pain. I certainly think that deleting the News app and then updating the OS and only then reinstalling the News app covers both bases!
Read above, please.
