iPhone 12 Pro freezes after iOS 16 update

Hi, I’ve just updated my iPhone 12 Pro to iOS 16.1.1 and it now keeps freezing. The screen wallpaper goes black, replacing my photo, it then freezes. I have to either do a force restart or it reboots by itself. It’s happening almost every 30 mins. Any ideas?

Hello JowC,

We don't suggest reverting to a previous iOS version, as each update contains security patches and information to keep the content and data on your iPhone safe, and ultimately improve performance. With that said, installing an outdated version of iOS on your iPhone isn’t supported.

If your iPhone is freezing while using specific apps, try these steps to see if they resolve the issue for you:

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

You'll find these steps and more information here: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

For the issue you're experiencing with your iPhone wallpaper, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support directly. They're best-equipped to take a closer look and provide some additional guidance. This link will help you get started: Contact - Official Apple Support

Take care.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The phone works fine and turns on but randomly the wallpaper image changes to a black background, with all apps still visible, or I can be browsing Facebook etc or using the camera and the screen freezes. If it's left for a few minutes, the phone restarts itself and then is back working or it will be ok again if I do a force restart. Then it happens all over again when in use. This has only happened since updating to iOS 16.1.1

This is my first update to iOS 16 so don't know what previous versions were like. Is it possible to roll back to iOS 15?
