To perform a DFU (Device Firmware Update) reset on an iPhone 11, even with iOS 18, the process remains the same. DFU mode is a deep restore mode that reloads both the firmware and iOS — it’s typically used when your iPhone is seriously messed up and standard recovery won’t work.
Before You Begin
- Make sure you have a Mac or PC with Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier, or Windows).
DFU Reset Instructions for iPhone 11
- Use a Lightning cable to
- connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Connect your iPhone 11 to the computer using a Lightning cable.
Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
- Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
Press and hold the Side (Power) button until the screen goes black.
- While continuing to hold the Side button, now press and hold the Volume Down button for about 5 seconds.
Release the Side button but keep holding the Volume Down button for another 10 seconds.
- If done correctly, the screen should stay black.
- Finder (Mac) or iTunes (PC) will detect an iPhone in recovery mode — but the screen will stay black (this is how you know it’s DFU mode, not just regular recovery mode).
Follow the prompts on your computer to Restore your iPhone.
To Exit DFU Mode (if you want to cancel it):
Just press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
