Audio output switches to TV speakers often

The audio output on two separate televisions with two separate 4K Apple TV devices will disconnect from their audio output and revert to the television. Both Apple TVs are up to date. Both televisions have been manufactured in the last three years. One television is using a new Sonos surround sound setup which have been paired correctly (2 Play Ones, 1 Playbar, 1 Sub). The other television is using a HomePod.

I was attributing this to my living room tv but it started occurring once I added the HomePod to my bedroom tv. I've seen older discussions but none of them have provided me with solutions. Please help! I use both devices for work and it's very frustrating and disruptive. Thanks!

Greetings jkv152,

Since having this issue have you tried different cables between the TV and sound bar to help isolate the issue further? If not, test a different cable to see if the issue persists. This is a great step to help isolate the issue to the Apple TVs or the cable itself.

In addition to testing different cables, you'll also want to make sure you're running the latest tvOS. While simple, updating is a great step that can help resolve many issues. You can find the steps for updating tvOS listed below and in the following article.

"Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software.
If there's an update, select Download and Install.
Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Keep your Apple TV connected and plugged in to power until the update is complete."
