I don't see default audio output in the Apple TV's settings. Where is it?

I have to say that the Home App is utterly confusing.

I can't understand why it's so difficult to do the simplest things. My Homepod Pair intermittently complains about network access WHILE playing audio that is being streamed to it from other devices on the network, telling me to check the Home App for more info. There's never more info.

If it isn’t showing up in apple tv settings, make sure you’re using the same Apple ID (iCloud account) for all devices.

All on the same wifi network.

Apple tv needs to be assigned to the same room HomePods are in. You do this in AirPlay & Homekit settings on the ATV .

Go through the instructions again.

Or try signing out if Apple TV in settings - users acts - iCloud or reboot you wifi

SOLVED - tl;dr: connect Apple TV with Ethernet.

I’ve been struggling with this for months. I upgraded to the new HomePod set and the latest Gen Apple TV 4K. Could not set as default. I even upgraded to AmpliFi Alien WiFi routers that support HomeKit.

Why it doesn’t work without Ethernet: Apple TV and HomePods connect via different protocols - AppleTV 4K uses WiFi 6 but the new #HomePod only uses Wifi 4. I used static routes with the router, grouped them as a unit, tried everything. Until @Apple solves the #softwareproblem, the only reliable method is to connect #AppleTV via Ethernet.
