No Trash in Mail

I use the Mail app to manage 6 email accounts. After updating my iPhone 11 to iOS 16.1.1 I noticed one gmail account has no Trash box. If I send an email to Trash it comes back to the Inbox. The only way to get rid of it is to send it to Junk.

Is there a way to add (or restore) the Trash box?

Hello J_Kent,

Maybe it has moved to the Archive Mailbox.

To change the settings, try the steps below.

Delete emails on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Mail >Accounts > Select Your Account > Account > Advanced.

Once you're there, navigate to the "Move Discarded Messages Into" section and choose "Deleted Mailbox."

If the original problem persists after trying the previous steps, please provide us with specifics on what you see for more help, and we will continue from there.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Hi there J_Kent,

If you haven't already done so, take a moment to open a browser and go to www.Gmail.com and check to see if the Trash folder shows there. If it does not, you'll want to reach out to Google Support directly, as that indicates that the issue is related to their server.

If the Trash folder does show there, you may want to try to remove the email account and readd it to see if this helps to correct the issue. Add and remove email accounts on iPhone - Apple Support.

Add email accounts
The first time you open the Mail app on your iPhone, you may be asked to set up an email account—just follow the onscreen instructions.
To add additional email accounts, do the following:
1. Go to Settings  > Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
2. Do one of the following:
- Tap an email service—for example, iCloud or Microsoft Exchange—then enter your email account information.
- Tap Other, tap Add Mail Account, then enter your email account information.

Log out of or remove email accounts
1. Go to Settings  > Mail > Accounts.
2. Tap the email account you want to remove, then do one of the following:
- If you’re removing an iCloud email account: Tap iCloud, tap iCloud Mail, then turn off “Use on this iPhone.”
- If you’re removing another email account: Turn off Mail.
Note: To remove the email account from all apps on your iPhone, tap Delete Account.

We hope this helps you out.

Kind regards!
