I use messenger frequently. Cannot function without it, many people depend on me. Downloaded to new iPad. It just has the white page, circle going for hours.
I've deleted. Redownloaded. Same thing.
I forced shut down while it was doing this, did not help.

There are many reports of issues with Messenger. Many users also report that deleting both the FaceBook and Messenger Apps from the iPad, prior to restarting and reinstalling the Apps, will resolve the problem. Perhaps this will also work for you:

I had the same problem with a new ipad. I finally fixed it accidentally doing a very strange thing.
First, I deleted both facebook and messenger and turned off the ipad.
Then, after turning the ipad back on, I went to the app store and installed the messenger app. FIRST.
It opened right up and then I reinstalled facebook and all is working.
This is true and I did exactly what you have described many times, but I had always installed facebook first.
It only worked when I installed messenger before I put facebook back on.
If I installed facebook first or it was still on, all I ever got when installing messenger was a white screen and a never ending working circle.
My point was that your post never mentioned that it might make a difference on what order you reinstalled the apps. I still don't know why it worked, only that it did.
This being exactly as I have described above.
My first reply in this thread explicitly states that Messenger should be installed first - prior to reinstalling FaceBook.
