IOS 16.1.1 Notifications Not working

My iPhone updated in the night to IOS 16.1.1 since then none of my apps show as a notification in the Notification Centre. I get a sound alert but when I swipe down I can’t see alerts or preview messages received from WhatsApp.

Hi hayleyfrompeterborough,

You mentioned that you do not see notification for WhatsApp, do you see notifications for any other apps? Are there any updates available for the app that need to be installed?

To update apps manually:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Tap your Profile at the top right
  3. Scroll down to view available updates
  4. Tap "Update" next to a specific app or tap "Update All"

Are you able to view them from the Lock Screen if you swipe up from the bottom? With the changes to iOS 16, notifications on the Lock Screen are now located at the bottom which is shown here: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Hope that helps!

I had this problem with 16.1.1, and I've just updated to 16.1.2 with the same problem. I get no notifications for IG, FB, WhatsApp, WeChat, Telegram, and SF Express apps (probably others but I won't know until I open them…). If I open the apps manually then the messages are all shown as new messages, but the push notifications seem to have broken. I have restarted, turned notifications off and on (globally and for each app individually), nothing seems to work. Not good.

UPDATE: having spoken to apple support, one fix is to delete and reinstall the apps. Obviously not ideal with hundreds of apps, and some apps will need their content backed up (while WhatsApp, Telegram, and FB Messenger restore chats without the need for backups (in my experience), note that WeChat does not and you need to manually perform the backup within the app before deleting it!). Not a solution to the original problem, which is still a mystery, but at least a way to restore the notification functionality.
