Clicking on a link to an app from safari or sms, the link takes me to app store instead of the app

When clicking on a link to an app (like twitter, IG, FB etc) from safari or sms, the link takes me to app store instead of the app. I would like to direct the link to open in the actual app when clicked

device- iphone 12 pro max

ios version- 15.7

Hey there azidr,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

This could be expected behavior depending on the link. When you click on the link, does it give you to open in app or stay in browser? When you're taken to the App Store, does it bring you to the appropriate app, or just the main store front? Do you see an update for the app? This information can help us determine how to proceed.

Keep us posted.

Have a great day!

Thanks for replying to the post.

sometimes it’ll ask for “open in browser” or directly take me to the app store where the app store will show the actual app but not direct me to the app itself. So that can be annoying

for example - someone sends me a link (via sms) to yelp to check out a restaurant… i click on the link, it directs me to the app store where the app ‘yelp’ is there to download, even though i already have the app downloaded in my device.
