Facebook Messenger notifications not showing, no sound either since updating to IOS 16.1.1

Since updating to ios 16.1.1 facebook messenger notifications are not showing, nor is there any alert sound or even a red circle indicator on the app on the home screen. Only when i open the app can i see there are new messages/chats etc.

I have read many website and community suggestions. Did the obvious - turned off and on many times. logged out and back in. deleted both facebook and messenger apps and reinstalled. made sure phone was updated and both apps are updated. checked the notifications settings. sounds and badges are on. volume turned up on phone.

What else can i try??

I didn't change any settings, only updated my iphone SE (2020).

how can i fix this very, very annoying issue?

Here's How to contact an app developer - Apple Support.

Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.
