I have recently reinstalled Monterey on a clean install. I use Mac Mail on the iMac. I am using IMAP.
I have a ton of messages in the Inbox on Gmail when I look at my Gmail account. Some are read and some unread. But when I look on Mac Mail there are only a few.
I have selected synchronize.
How do I force Mac Mail to download all of the messages in Gmail on the IMAP server, even if those had previously been downloaded?

I assume that when you get messages using Mail some, but not all messages are being downloaded to you. Does this happen every time? Do you get any messages indicating only a partial download? Unless the Mac is disconnecting in the middle of a download (and why would that happen?) for some reason, the problem very likely lies with the Gmail server. I suggest that you contact them for assistance.
It all worked perfectly until I did a clean install.
What I need to do is re-download the Gmail messages into Mail that had been downloaded before.
They are still on the Gmail server, but not on the fresh load of Mac Mail.
