Connected Gmail account to iPhone Mail app and now all emails are gone.

I connected 2 of my Gmail accounts to my apple mail, now all previous mail and all mail in folders on my Gmail accounts are gone without a trace. They have disappeared from my Outlook application on my PC, as well has the web browser version of Gmail. Those messages are also not available in the IOS Mail app on my iPhone. What has happened? How can I recover all my emails? Please help!!!

Hey there jcblsndrsn,

Adding an email account to an iPhone would not suddenly cause your emails to delete themselves, especially since you checked and they're also missing from checking from the Gmail website itself. We wanted to confirm a few things to help us better understand what's happened, along with making sure to rule out some general details:

  1. Did you delete any emails yourself since adding your two Gmail accounts to the Mail app on your iPhone?
  2. If you check the Trash/Deleted/etc. folder in your two Gmail accounts, do you see any of your missing emails?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  4. Since you're using a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.1.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!
