Is it possible to stop CarPlay from playing?

I'm driving along listening to the radio (AM, FM or satellite). A call comes in that interrupts the radio (as it should). When the call is completed I don't go back to the radio station I was listening to, but instead the car goes to the Music app on Apple CarPlay and starts playing from my iPhone using Apple CarPlay.

It takes 6 or 7 button presses to get me back to the radio station I was listening to. I prefer not to do all this while driving. This is happening on a Ford, GM, and a Toyota. Can't really blame the cars I don't think. I've been looking on my iPhone for a setting that might be doing this but I can't find it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Ziatron,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with  iPhone using Apple CarPlay instead of going back to the radio after calls. Have you tried restarting your iPhone? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 16.1.1? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Then update your iOS as outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks, it looks like iOS 16.1.1 took care of it. It's a lot more fun, when a call is disconnected and the audio in your vehicle goes right back to where it was without messing with the screen on the car.

By the way, everyone really loves having the battery percentage on the home screen. We really missed it when it went away for a couple of years. Thanks!
