PS4 Dualshock controller not re-connecting after pairing

I have two PS4 controllers. I can pair them to my Apple 4k (2022 edition) easily. After turning off the controller, I cannot reconnect without "forgetting" the controller and re-pairing the controller. After searching forums, there is a solution that involves turning off the Apple TV remote. I believe this is definitely an Apple issue, as I've had the same issue with the last 3 Apple TVs I've owned, and I do not have this issue pairing the same controllers with my iPhone or iPad or any other device.

I suspect that the Apple remote somehow runs on the same ID or frequency as PS4... or that Apple needs to do more work around device drivers or compatibility. This is really annoying because PS4 controllers are the best game controllers and are widely available and not terribly expensive. I use them to run the Steam link app to play PC games with my 4k TV and re-pairing the controller every time is possible, but just seems dumb.

My controller does connect and it stays connected. The issue is that after I turn it off, and want to REconnect, it will not. I saw these steps in previous forum posts and have tried them. Thank you.

Forgetting the controller and reconnecting is a workaround, but on the Apple TV 4K (unless on my ipad or iphone), when I turn the controller back on, it does not reconnect on its own... it just sort of hangs there and does nothing until the controller turns off again.

The only way to connect the controller again is to "forget" the device, and re-pair it. It's annoying and should not be happening, but there is a workaround.

Hello wallander,

If your game controller isn't staying connected, try these steps:

If the controller doesn't connect or work as expected
Support for specific buttons and features, such as a controller's audio jack or lights, varies by controller and the app you're using with it.

• Install the latest software updates—both for your Apple device and the controller. If a software (firmware) update is available for the controller, get it from the maker of the controller.
• In Bluetooth settings, select the contoller or the info button  (if present) next to its name, then select Forget This Device. Connect the controller again.
• Reduce the number of Bluetooth devices connected to your Apple device. This can also help with connection issues related to wireless interference. Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD support up to four Bluetooth game controllers at the same time, or one controller when Apple TV is also using a Bluetooth audio accessory. The limit for other Apple devices varies based on your specific setup and wireless environment.
• To charge your controller, use the charging solution included with your controller or recommended by the controller manufacturer.
