Problems with airpod pros randomly connecting

I'm having problems with sound on my Mac Pro running Monterey.

If my airpods are near the laptop they reguarly connect, switch the output to the airpods and mute the microphone.

This occurs even when they're in their charge case.

Anyone know of a fix? It's a big problem when I'm trying to have meetings.

It sounds like automatic switching is turned on for your AirPods Pro. To turn this off, follow the actions under the "Turn off automatic switching" section here:

"On your Mac

With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Bluetooth.
Click the Options button next to your AirPods in the list of devices.
From the Connect to This Mac menu, choose When Last Connected to This Mac.
To turn this feature on again, choose Automatically."
