Hey FrannyJane,

Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Tap your email provider > Advanced. Here it sounds like you have it set to Archive. Instead choose Trash. With this selected, you should be able to swipe a message all the way to the left to send the email to Trash, without having to select More first.

You can also find some other ways of deleting here: If iCloud Mail isn't working - Apple Support. For example, you can choose Edit at the top and select multiple emails to delete at once.

If you are still looking for something different, you can leave feedback about what you would like to see here: Product Feedback - Apple.

Hello FrannyJane,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about accessing the Trash in Gmail on your iPhone.

Using the iOS Mail app, the info is here: Delete and recover emails in Mail on iPhone - Apple Support

"Recover a deleted email

  1. Tap the Back button in the upper-left corner, then tap an account’s Trash mailbox.
  2. Tap the email you want to recover, then tap the Reply button.
  3. Tap Move Message, then choose another mailbox."

If that's not what you are needing, please reach back out. Thanks.
