Can't communicate with helper application

My Mac book is only 2 years old, but ever since new I get this very annoying message from time to time. Can't Communicate With Helper Application.

This stops saving files , attaching to email etc.

I have to restart the Mac Book,,, terrible for such an expensive bit of kit.

upgrades in opperating systems hasn't fixed it so I have no idea what causes it.
