Save Dialogue window and Save button greyed out/Unresponsive.

When I try to save or export from various apps, (Pages, safari, etc.) the Save Dialogue window pops up, and is totally unresponsive except the naming slot, and Save button is greyed out and unresponsive.

Running on macOS Monterey 12.4.

Hi ÁJ,

Are you referring to saving a Pages document as outlined in the steps below from the guide here?: Save and name a document in Pages on Mac - Apple Support

  1. Click anywhere in the document window to make it active, then choose File > Save (from the File menu at the top of your screen).
  2. Enter a name in the Save As field, then enter one or more tags (optional).
  3. Click the Where pop-up menu and choose a location.
  4. The Save dialog for a document with Pages—iCloud in the Where pop-up menu.
    • If you want the document to appear on all your devices set up with iCloud Drive, save the document in the Pages folder in iCloud Drive. (To see this option, iCloud Drive must be set up on your Mac.)
    • To create a new folder for the document, click the Where pop-up menu and choose Other, then click New Folder at the bottom of the dialog. Enter a name for the folder, then click Create.

5.Click Save"

If so, does the issue continue after checking and adjusting file permissions?

Hey there, ÁJ.

Got it, thank you for clarifying further. If you haven't yet, you can see if restarting your Mac device may help: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support Restarting can seem like a simple step, but it can sometimes help resolve unexpected issues as it can refresh data/software.

If the issue continues after a restart, another thing you can try to help isolate this issue is to log into your Mac in a temporary new user: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support  A new user doesn't have custom or changed settings, and can help determine possible next steps by isolating this further, as it can show if the issue is inside your current user or not.

You could also test in safe mode as well to try to see if this issue happens there as well. Safe mode only allows certain software to load, which can help isolate this further or even possibly resolve the issue, as it can do a basic check up on your startup disk. You can read more about safe mode here (which includes on how to start up in safe mode, if needed): How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Take care.

No. I know how to save files. When the pop-up window appears, The "Save" button is grayed out , and the entire "Save As" popup window is unresponsive.

The only thing you that works is typing in the name field. But then you can't interact with anything else in the pop-up window. You can't select a different folder, use the dropdown... nothing.
