Hi elevatedmind,

You started from a great resource: Use the Depth app on Apple Watch Ultra - Apple Support

For help with the Depth app, test the steps below found in the article here: Measure underwater temperature, duration, and depth on Apple Watch Ultra - Apple Support

"Configure the Depth app

When you first set up Apple Watch Ultra, you choose how the Depth app opens—automatically when submerged, or manually, when you tap the app or press the Action button. To change that setting after you’ve set up your watch, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch Ultra.
  2. Go to General > Auto-Launch.
  3. Below When Submerged, turn Auto-Launch App on or off.
  4. You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, go to General > Auto-Launch, then, below When Submerged, turn Auto-Launch App on or off.
  5. To choose depth and temperature units, tap Depth in the Settings app, then choose depth units (Feet or Meters) and water temperature units (Fahrenheit or Celsius).
  6. You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, then tap Depth."

If you've tried starting the session automatically and manually with the steps and the issue continues, reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.
