I have recently updated my IPad 12.9 inch (5th generation) to IOS 16.1.
I am currently trying to extend the IPad on external monitors but it still only mirrors it. I have turned on stage manager and is still doing the same thing.
I have it running through a dell docking port and I am not sure if this is a problem.
Apple has not, as yet, officially added external monitor support to the new iPadOS 16 Stage Manager feature.
Look for Apple to, officially, release the extended monitor support, to the iPadOS 16 Stage Manager feature, in a future iPadOS 16 update.

Basic screen mirroring should be available to an external TV or connected monitor with iPadOS 16.1. However, Stage Manager support for external monitors is not yet available - this feature being planned for release later in the iPadOS16 lifecycle.
