accidentally highlighted the entire file on Preview

accidentally highlighted the entire file on Preview

how can I undo the highlighted portion which in my case is the whole file without unhighlighting some portion which has been highlighted twice?

PS- if your solution is to "select and unhighlight the content" I have that much brain and tried already.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.5

Neither Acrobat Reader nor Preview is very good about undoing parts of selections. Sadly, the best solution is to reopen the file in some cases. Keep a notation elsewhere what page you were on, so you can get back to what you want to select quickly.
