Iphone wifi connectivity issues!!!

I have been having issues with wifi connectivity since I had updated to ios 16.1. The issue is that since the update my iphone 12 pro max is experiencing a lack of a steady connection as before when I did not update the ios. The wifi signal seems to be dropping every 2-5 seconds and then comes back on just for a few minutes and then drops again. This never happened before and now please if there is anyone else with this issue can you identify a solution. It is definitely not my internet provider because my son’s android phone and tablet are not having any issues of what I have. Please apple can you fix it because it is so annoying when I’m working and the signal drops and everything else is lost or have to be refreshed. Very disappointing and annoyed.

Do all three of these

·      Reset the router to factory settings (menu or paper clip) – yes even if all other devices connect OK!

·      On iphone Settings, General, Transfer iphone or reset, reset, reset network settings

·      If you have a VPN you are strongly recommended to uninstall it and its profile in Settings, General, VPN and device management

PS you cannot go back to 15 without using one of the unofficial websites which contain jailbreak versions with heaven knows what malware.

Bear in mind there is no 16 bug and your problem is rogue app usually security or adblocker, bad router, or bad setting, or hardware fail on the phone.

First try other wi-fi location.

then

Settings, Privacy & security, location services, system services, turn off networking & wireless.

Thank you so much LD150 for your help and believe me I have done all of what you had mentioned here and also on the suggested link you gave. Really much appreciated but it still has not solved my problem. The connection is still a “drop and go” kind of experience. I paid particular attention to the 3 suggestions you made here and did all of it, even twice. I even called up my internet provider asking for help but they insist it is an upgrade issue with iphones. I believe they are somehow correct and I think I will wait it out until the next update comes and hopefully it will resolve my issue. And if at all possible, would there be a way to delete/erase the update or maybe a way to go back to my previous ios 15 when everything was working quite well. But if nothing happens then for sure this is where I will make the switch over to android for I was a user before but wanted to experience the luxury of having a device that flows well enough without issues but now it seems samsung is now getting the upperhand if apple can’t fix this problem. This coming from a very frustrated apple product owner!!!!

I am thankful for your concern and I get where you’re coming from but I believe I forgot to mention that my phone never had this problem before the upgrade to ios 16 and that my wife is also having the same issues with her phone because I was the one that upgraded her iphone 11 pro max. I do not believe it is a hardware malfunction because it also does the same thing with our other internet service provider when I use data for internet. The same thing happens and I know it is because of the upgrade. I see a lot of people complaining about issues with their phones since upgrading to ios 16. So I am truly concerned that the upgrade has caused this problem for both our phones and we’ve had our phones for less than 2 years, well for me it is but my wife’s phone is about 3 now. So please apple I really need a solid solution because I have tried all that has been said here and the problem still prevails. I think I will reset the whole phone back to factory settings to see what happens since I have my icloud for rescuing purposes! Thanks anyways. Apple I really need that update really soon and hopefully you have a solution to my problem within it. Thanks and have a nice day.

Apple are not here and there is no bug that affects everyone.

The extra information about your wife's phone would have helped earlier, forget hardware and concentrate on the Router and any software you installed on both phones like adblockers that can use VPN, and howlers like antivirus "security" apps.

The 4 items I posted in my posts 1 and 3 usually fix wifi problems.

Thank you for the suggestions and/or solutions to my connectivity issues. It does seem to work for now but I will let it sit for a few days and see what happens. But it does look promising for now. But, just one question, will this affect anything else with moving forward in turning off the location service for the phone? Isn’t this a vital component of having complete and detailed information for upgrading and updating other software programs or apps for the phone? But thanks again for your help. Much appreciated! Have a blessed Sunday to you.

It is only turning off location services for the networking - If you search some youtube battery conservation links (I will not put them up here) they turn off every systems services location service except for Find My on the grounds that everythimg else is for Apple's benefit.

If this is a steady state fix then either there is a selective bug or something changed that some routers do not like. Time will tell but Apple need to know (they don't read these posts)

Ufakomo: I have the same issue. Completely fine iPhone pro 13, working on all kinds of wireless systems pre 16.1, then I upgrade to 16.1 and all of a sudden (the same night the update completed) every 2-5 seconds my Wi-Fi stops and starts. Usually coincides with location services attempting to look up where I am, so it’s worse in certain apps that use location extensively.

while I appreciate the suggestions by LD150 on various things in this thread, I really hope that most people don’t immediately go to “reset your router and Wi-Fi and phone and (X) to factory defaults and reinstall everything” route any time something happens like this. I am a power user… I had a functional device, cohabitating with lots of others. One single change occurred - an update to 16.1 - and now Wi-Fi is garbage. It’s not the router, it’s not some app on my phone, etc… it’s the UPDATE. Apple busted something.

FWIW, I’ve tried since this issue presented with Wi-Fi from TP link, Ubiquiti, Cisco, Asus, and Starlink and all of them have the same issue. Only turning off network location sync, or location functionality entirely, fixes the issue.

since I do have this workaround, I’m not bothering with contacting Apple, but it would be nice if they fixed it. If it bothers me more I can always switch back to Android.
