MFA/2FA Text Messages Not Receivable - iOS 16.x on iPhone 14. Only automated texts with 2FA codes. SMS from 10 digit US numbers, no problem.

I recently purchased and began using an iPhone 14 Pro Max, Model: MQ933LL/A , iOS 16.1 (after updating from 16.0 this week).

I am disappointed by a very perplexing issue, I am unable to receive Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) text message codes. I am able to receive push notifications from Apple for MFA, for example; however, text message codes for all of the applications I have MFA login enabled for, are not working. I cannot login (via web browser or iOS app) without those 6-9 digit security code texts. Some websites allow for calls instead of texts, which luckily works. As part of transferring from an older iPhone to a newer model, all apps require a new sign-in. This is very frustrating. I can receive regular SMS from 10 digit phone numbers, but not texts from automated systems.

I ensured my Apple ID was signed out of my old phone. I called Apple Support, and was told this is a known issue, but no temporary or permanent fix, and no target date for when that update would be available. I was excited to see iOS update v16.1, but this did not fix the issue, sadly.
