Phone ringer extremely loud through airpods while listening to music

I have been having an issue with my airpods, while listening to music or a podcast at a normal volume and someone calls the ringer is at FULL volume and basting my eardrums out. I cannot figure out how to change this setting only for use with airpods. I tried changing the notification volume but the next morning my alarm was super quiet.

Thanks for getting back to us, beef1976.

You can see if reducing loud headphone sounds helps with the notifications: Use headphone audio level features on iPhone - Apple Support

"Reduce loud headphone sounds in Settings

  1. Go to Settings , then tap Sounds & Haptics (iPhone 7 and later) or Sounds (earlier models).
  2. Tap Headphone Safety.
  3. Turn on Reduce Loud Sounds, then drag the slider.
  4. iPhone analyzes your headphone audio and reduces any sound above the level you set."

This isn't specific to notifications but may help with sounds exceeding a certain decibel.

As mentioned previously, we would recommend to contact Apple Support if you need further help.

Cheers!

Hi beef1976,

We'd like to help you find the best resolution path for your ringer volume. On iOS you can go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and under Ringtone and alert volume, this would be where to make the volume meet the amount you wish to hear. If this does not help and no changes are being represented, we would further recommend Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support, since updating your device can typically resolve abnormal behavior you may experience:

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

If the device is updated and this remains, the last step to test is if this remains after How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support. Resetting your AirPods can help us isolate whether this is specific to your iPhone or the AirPods themselves.

That being said, if you're looking for a volume option for AirPods only, you'd want to submit feedback to ensure your voice is heard at: Product Feedback - Apple

If additional support is needed beyond this guidance, we would recommend to contact Apple Support.

Cheers!
