Tab bar not responding

I bought a new iPad Air 5, but for some reason the tab bar is sometimes buggy and I can’t minimize the application the first time. Please tell me what could be the problem and how to fix it?

The tags appended to your post suggest that your iPad is running iPadOS16. If so, you have presumably today installed iPadOS 16.1. If not - and you have the earlier beta version installed, ensure that you have updated to the production version of iPadOS.

If you have already fully updated your iPad to iPadOS 16.1, perform a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If the problem persists, you may have encountered an early problem with the new version - and may need to seek assistance from Apple Support. Should you need to do so, you can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

This problem was still on version 15.7. Today I updated to 16.1, but the problem has not disappeared anywhere. Rebooting the device doesn't help either. I went to the store where I bought this iPad and they replaced it twice, but all three devices had the same problem, so I thought that maybe it had something to do with ios itself ... Could they have the whole batch is defective?
