I have flowed the instructions to wipe my iPhone for a trade in. What do I do next?!

No I have not. I order my new phone online through Apple and added that I had a trade in. When I went to Apple to pick up my new iPhone, the gentleman there informed me that I would not be able to trade in my iPhone because I did it online?
