Touch ID

I'm trying to access my MacBook air and it's asking me my password to enable touch I'd. I tried my apple ID but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

It’s likely asking you for the laptop’s local user password.

(analogous to the passcode on an iOS drvice)

I have No password for my new MacBook Air , but my Touch ID Was enabled. Now I’m locked out??? I have a new MacBook Air and immediately I set up the Touch ID. This worked for several days. However, today it is asking for my password to the laptop- which I NEVER created!! “your password is required to enable Touch ID” I tried my Apple ID but to no avail. What do I do? Thanks
