iPod classic not getting past :Software: loading" window when restored using Mac OS Monterey Version 12.6

I restored my iPod classic to factory settings and now it does not get past the window that says loading software, and I can never get to the window that allows me to sync music to my iPod. I had selected it in the finder and it said it was in recovery mode, and I needed to install the factory software. It never gets past the window that says Software: Loading....and it has been 2 hours.
