Apple Watch Automatic Update During Day

Hello. I know the watch has to be charging to do the automatic update, but I charge mine either during the day or in the evening and wear it overnight. The automatic updates only seem to want to happen overnight, because sometime in the morning I get a message saying the watch wasn’t connected to power and couldn’t be updated.

is there an option somewhere to choose when an update is available and anytime when connected to power?

thanks friends!

Hello, heathercharleston.

Let's start off by checking the helpful steps in this article which can help with this issue: Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support. The article explains that for watch updates to complete, the following conditions must be met:

    1. "Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    2. Make sure that your Apple Watch is at least 50 percent charged.
    3. Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
    4. Keep your iPhone next to your Apple Watch, so that they're in range."

Please note: "It could take from several minutes to an hour for the update to complete. You might want to update overnight or wait until you have time." Since this process can take some time, that is why the overnight setup is suggested. If you don't want to leave the watch on the charger overnight, you can manually update when you wish by following the steps in the "Update directly on your Apple Watch" section.

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!
