Macbook microphone picks up system sounds

This has been driving me crazy for over a year. Whenever I use my microphone on my Macbook, doesn't matter if I have airpods connected or not, it picks up anything that's playing out of the speakers as input noise. This is ridiculous.

As an example, I'll be on facetime and if I watch a video in the background, the person on the other end can hear the video I'm watching. There are multiple reports asking for a solution and it seems like no one has found one?

How do I fix this?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.0

FaceTime,Zoom,Microsoft teams , to give a few examples… apps that use the microphone and/or built in camera…here’s apple’s suggestions for FaceTime in particular : Choose a camera or microphone for FaceTime calls on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

and here’s something more : https://screenrant.com/facetime-change-audio-settings-how/… i don’t know what macOs you have on your MacBook… the above link says you can tweak the mic settings on MacOS Monterey… doesn’t say anything about earlier versions… and this : Change audio options for FaceTime calls on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

well, I tried, anyways

Hmm.. try audio midi setup ( under utilities ) and try giving the app in question access to the microphone… i don’t know what version of the Mac OS you have, though… here’s a quick tip: if you click on the speaker icon at the top left of your screen while holding down”option” it’ll show you all available audio inputs and outputs on your Mac…
