Hi DrMAP76,

The steps in this article may help with the issue you've noticed: About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

1. Disconnect and reconnect your adapter from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and from your TV, monitor, or projector.
2. Make sure that your VGA or HDMI cable works, since the issue could be with the cable.
3. Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters. Accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signals to different video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) aren't compatible.
4. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.

If the issue persists, reply with the answers to these questions:

  • What happens when you try to use the cable?
  • Have you had a chance to test with another cable? If so, what happens?

Best regards.

Thanks for joining this group - those having trouble with hdmi cable link after installing Apple’s latest iOS upgrade 16. Going that Apple will notice this problem and stop blaming their customers for it. Here are the facts one mire time; 1) IPhone was linking to TV using Apple lightening cable phone was running iOS 15 (iPhone 8plus). 2) installed iOS 16 on phone 3) could no longer use Apple lightening cable to link to TV. 3) cable functioned effectively with another iPhone running IOS 15.

It appears clear that the variable causing the problem is the iOS change. Apple support blames everything else, the cable (which us also an Apple product), the phone, the TV. Wonder when someone at Apple might consider a bug in IOS 16? More than one user is having this problem.

DrMAP76,

To confirm, are you using a third-party HDMI to Lightning cable, or the Lightning Digital AV Adapter?

We ask because this would determine the best steps from this point.

If you're using the Apple adapter mentioned above, please contact Apple Support.

For a third-party HDMI to Lightning cable the best approach would be contacting the manufacturer.

Take care.

Thanks Les, Here is the evidence I have to date,

1) streaming using Apple Lightning HDMI cable does not work from my phone after installation of IOS 16.0.3 which seems to be the latest IOS available. Malfunction started with first IOS 16 installed and has continued.

2) my husband’s iPhone mirrors perfectly with this same hdmi cable. He is running IOS 15 on an iPhone 6.

3) there are no extensions or extraneous connections

4) I get no error messages the screen mirroring simply does not work.

I cannot blame the cable and it seems unlikely that the problem is the iPhone itself since it worked with this identical setup before I upgraded.

the evidence being what it is the most liked problem is with the variable that changed, the IOS.

If you have any other thoughts I would’ve glad to hear them. I appreciate the time you took to analyse my problem.

Thanks again, we are using the Apple digital connector, that is why we were surprised that the Apple support person said they did not support it. However, there are others in the community who report the same problem and also were unable to access any help. I can try again with Apple support.

I would be interested to hear from anyone in the community who has been able to mirror their screen from iPhone running iOS 16 to smart tv using HDMI cable. Thanks
