Macbook pro 2019 keeps crashing.

So my laptop started crashing weirdly couple of days ago. OS version is 10.15.7 Catalina. I use this for music making, so I'm not in hurry with updates. Logic Pro with lots of plugins from Native Instruments, Izotope, Toontrack and so on.

When troubles started I was not making music. So my Sound interface was not connected (Universal Audio apollo twin). First web pages started crashing in Chrome, Vs Code crashed (I code too) and such. I just rebooted and things somehow worked.

Then I tried to continue with Logic Pro yesterday (The latest version you can have in Catalina, 10.6.something), Always crashed when tried to open with project. Crashed the whole laptop. Tried without UA sound interface. Worked for a while then Logic crashed again.

I've done some things,

  • Apple Diagnostics find no issue. I've run it couple of times
  • I Safe Booted, it did not crash, but whole lot of things do not load or work while safe boot.
  • I did SMC resetting
  • I did NVRAM resetting.
  • I have run disk utility, no problem occurred there.

I have couple of external SSL hard drives attached by usb cable or hub. Containing sound libraries etc.

I now tried again logic pro, without sound interface, and first without external hard drives attached. And no head phones, just through laptop speakers. Tested it for a while. Attached hard drives. Opened old existing project. Tested for a while. Then I attached headphones, and Logic crashed instantly. Also Web pages stopped working, Logic would not restart, even App Store would not start. I had to reboot.

This has been really top machine, only two years old, bought in July 2020. And I paid a lot for it. So this is quite frustrating.

Drive seems to be fine.

Disk Utility check and DriveX check did not find problems. I'll paste the disk utility's details also here. Gotta do the memCheck next.

Disk Utilitys first aid:

I uninstalled Intego bundle. I guess I panicked few years ago when those ransomwares started to show everywhere :). Before that I did not think I would need antivirus software.

It probably did cause some of the problems. I may have more causes however. When started to use Logic pro with Apollo Twin interface, in crashed whole laptop after a while. Without it everything seemed to be working. Maybe switch those cables, I guess there is no way to test them.

Your report shows a larger number of panic reports than I have ever seen in one place before. Despite intego being very invasive, some really fundamental MacOS things have crashed, all over the map, for different reasons each time, again and again and again.

Based on the number and diversity of those reports, I think you may have a RAM memory problem.

At a minimum, you should run the diagnostic.

Remember that "no fault found" is not the same as "all is well".

I was really hoping Intego was the source of all those crashes. Assuming Intego was completely removed -- sometimes apps are not completely removed even when using the developer's uninstaller. You can run EtreCheck again to see if any signs of Intego remain. Like @Grant mentions, I've never seen so many crash reports listed.

Or there may be a file system issue. Try running Disk Utility First Aid on the hidden Container. Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "About This Mac" before the hidden Container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if First Aid says everything is "Ok", click "Show Details" and scroll back through the report to see if any unfixed errors are listed. If any unfixed errors are listed, then try running First Aid from Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R), otherwise you will need to erase the whole drive and reinstall & restore from a backup.

Try running DriveDx and posting the complete text report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper. Unfortunately there isn't much information in the health report for Apple SSDs, but it never hurts to check.

To look for possible memory issues you can try running Memtest86. You will need to modify the laptop's security settings to allow the laptop to boot to a USB drive by using the Startup Security Utility. Definitely run Memtest86 with the default settings, but also run the tests by modifying Memtest86's CPU settings by testing with "Sequential" and "Round Robin" CPU options. I have found these two options have uncovered memory failures on several different computers recently. Most times Memtest86 has become frozen during the tests instead of actually reporting a memory error. I did run the same tests on other identical Macs without issue, so the failures seem legitimate and not a bug with Memtest86 (I already suspected a memory issue on them anyway and it allowed me to "confirm" the repair resolved the issue). FYI, you may need to use a magnifier in order to read the text on the screen. You can also remove the Memtest86 USB stick once the test has started.

Finally managed to run memTest (Had to create the bootable usb in another computer). And results are pretty harsh... after the error count reached 11375, the test was aborted due too many errors.

Can this be fixed at reasonable price (I mean not the price of new macbook air or smtg)? No choice but the local mcCare here on monday I guess.
