Remove AirPods from iCloud account

I recently sold my old AirPods, and I thought I did everything right when I removed them in Find My.

But something went wrong, and the new owner gets the message that they still are connected to my iCloud account.

However, I can’t even see them in the device list in Find My anymore.

How can I remove them remotely from my iCloud account?

With a web browser, go to: https://www.iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID. Open Find My iPhone and select All Devices (at the top). Then click your Apple Airpods, select 'Erase', and select Next until the device is erased. Finally click "X" next to remove the AirPods.
