Photo shortcut not appearing in Finder sidebar & not seeing folders created in photos

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 16in, 2021; running Monterey (12.5.1). Two issues:

  1. I can't seem to get the photos icon to appear in the Finder sidebar for a quick access to my photos gallery. I have an older Macbook Pro where it is on the sidebar. I have studied all of the settings on it to match them to my new Mac and no luck.
  2. I have added photos and separated them into folders in the photo app (v 7.0). When I craft an email and want to attach a photo, the folders are gone. It will show all of the photos if I click on the Photos icon on the sidebar (it shows up here under Media heading but not in the Finder sidebar) and then click on the Photos file.

I had no issues understanding photos on my previous Macbook but I am lost here. I am sure there are settings I have missed. Thank you!

  1. I don't recall the OS ever allowing an application to be put on the Finder sidebar. Are you sure you didn't have the Pictures Folder there? You can also keep your Photos icon in the Dock (which can be on any edge of your screen) to get one click access that way.
  2. In Photos.app. images go in albums, not folders. Folders can contain albums but not photographs on their own. I suggest using the search box, top right of the window to help you track the images you require.
