Friend's email suddenly going to Junk folder

For the last few days, emails from a close friend, whom I regularly exchange emails with, have ended up in the Junk folder. She's using the same address as always, and this address is on her card in Contacts.

Does anyone know what's going on here and I how I can make her emails go to the In Box like they used to?

Thanks in advance,

Parallels, macOS 10.12

Hi Erroll,

Are you using iCloud mail when this occurs? If so, for help with marking the messages "not junk", test the steps below found in the article here: Manage junk mail in Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support

"Indicate that an email isn’t junk

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click the Junk folder in the Mailboxes list.
  2. Select the message or messages, then do one of the following:
    • If you selected one message: Click the Reply, Reply All, Forward button, then click Move to Inbox.
    • If you selected multiple messages: Click Mark, then click “Move to Inbox.”

Subsequent messages from the same sender are no longer automatically marked as junk."

If the account is a third-party account there are likely similar steps to ensuring the messages don't filter to the junk folder. You can also add the contact as a VIP to help: Show emails from VIP senders in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Best.

Thanks for the reply (for which I didn't get an email notification!) You haven't dealt with the issue that the mail in my Junk folder is from someone in my address book who I've been exchanging mail with for years. This was the first time her mail had gone to junk. What I did was, in Mail on my Mac, selected "Move to Inbox". However, the very next message from her went to my Junk folder today, so this time I've followed your instructions and performed the "Move to Inbox" at iCloud.com.

I also had another email from a mailing list that sends me a daily message and today, for the first time, it went to my Junk folder. Something has changed and, from the fact that one of these senders is in my address book, something is broken.

Thanks again.

Hello Erroll,

So it sounds like you moved the message to the Inbox folder through the iCloud website, however new messages from that person are still being directed to the Junk folder.

If that's the case, you'll then want to check if any filters are currently set up for this email address:

  1. In Mail on iCloud.com, click the Settings button at the top of the Mailboxes list, then choose Preferences.
  2. Click Rules, then select a rule.
  3. Look through the rules (if you have any set up) and see if any have this email address in it.

Set up rules to filter email in Mail on iCloud.com

If no rules are set up and messages from this person continue to get directed to the Junk folder, you'll want to contact Apple for assistance with the account: Get Support

Cheers!
