Oticon Hearing Aids with MacBook Pro
I have successfully been using Oticon S1 hearing aids paired to a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) via a ConnectClip for over a year without an EPOS bluetooth dongle - mac sounds and videoconferencing remote meetings via Webex and Zoom. In the last few weeks, the connection is still made but it is now mono instead of stereo which it used to be. Below are what I've observed:
- It is mono for all uses on the computer - computer sounds like arriving email alerts, remote video meetings, YouTube videos in a web browser and music played in the music app.
- Sound System Preferences for ConnectClip show it as centered between L/R channels when video conferencing is not active. When Webex is on, it shows "this device has no output controls".
- Switching to a connection via the Oticon EPOS bluetooth dongle made no difference - still mono.
- Occurs on the MacBookPro 2019 16 inch running MacOS 12.6 adminitered by my workplace and months old MacBook Pro 2022 14inch running MacOS12.4 I have at home.
- It is not the ConnectClip hardware: I ordered a new one as this setup has been a workhorse for about a year now. The new ConnectClip has the same issue.
- It is not my hearing aids: It is the same pair and I get stereo just fine from my iPhone even with spoken books, games, and ads.
- This testing has required full reset of both the new and old ConnectClip hardware and the issue persists.
- At about the same time period, an idiosyncrasy of the connection went away. Occasionally when connecting to Webex, the sound would be turned all the way down. Now it's mono, but it also never comes up turned down.
This is something systematic between the MacBook Pro and the ConnectClip.
