Scrambled text when using Messages on MacBook Pro M1

This issue has been brought up before, and thus far have not found any kind of solution to the problem. As another user succinctly described the issue:

"When typing a message, particularly a longer one, I'll start getting red lines as if there's a spelling error, but there isn't one. Even if I right click it, the menu shows no spelling corrections or issue. Once these red lines appear, then I start seeing the other problems. If I go back to correct a work or change typing, an apostrophe will sometimes appear after I move my cursor away from it. Changing a word will sometimes cause it to change into an entirely different word when I click away from it (ex. it changed a word to "literally" to "spiritic"). If I edit or move a line or block of text, that line of text will occasionally move itself to a completely different part of the message or rearrange some of the words of the section I just manipulated."

This issue was present on my 2015 macbook pro 15" running Catalina, carried over to my 2021 14" Macbook Pro M1running Monterey, and even started happening on a borrowed 2014 13" Macbook Pro Running Big Sur (had to send in the M1 due to the infamous cracked screen issue currently plaguing M1 MBP and Air) . The fact that the issue carried over to the borrowed macbook, where there was nothing installed from previous computers, and I just created a separate User and signed into my Apple ID, is pretty baffling.

I have turned off all autocorrect and auto replace features in both imessage and under keyboard settings in the System Prefs, but the problem persists, as has been suggested in other threads addressing this issue.

It is extremely frustrating, especially trying to communicate long text messages and constantly having to scan back through the text to make sure a random apostrophes have not been added and/or entire chunks of text haven't been erased or rearranged.

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities, AlanThick,

For issues with spellcheck on your Mac, we recommend trying to isolate the issue as much as possible. Doing so will provide a more targeted approach to troubleshooting the issue. It sounds like you may have done a few things already, such as testing in a new user on a new machine, and disabling the spell checking functionality. Since the issue continues, we would recommend a few additional steps that can help further isolate the issue. Try the following:

  1. If you have any third-party apps that function as a spellchecker, try disabling that next.
  2. Boot your Mac into safe mode, and see if the issue continues there: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
  3. If the issue is exclusive to the Messages app, see if the steps in If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support help. They're meant to target a specific app not behaving as expected.

Best!
