Apple Music and Siri on Apple watch

A few months ago Siri stopped being able to rate rate music, so "Hey Siri, rate this song 4 stars" stopped working. A suggestion on here was to create 5 playlists ("Rating One", "Rating Two" etc.) and just say "Hey Siri add this track to my rating two playlist" then apply the appropriate ratings on a Mac later. This fudge worked but for the last few weeks, when I use Siri on my watch to do this the response is:

"Looks like apple music can't add that".

If I use Siri on my phone it works as expected. Any idea what's changed?

TIA

Hi Ken Davies,

As this command should be supported per Use Siri to play music and podcasts, try completing the steps from Use Siri on your Apple Watch under the section "If Siri doesn't respond or asks you to try again":

"After each step, see if Siri responds:

  1. Check the Internet connection on your Apple Watch.
  2. On your iPhone, see if Siri is turned on. Tap Settings > Siri & Search, then turn on Listen for "Hey Siri". On iPhone X, turn on Press Side Button for Siri. On iPhone 8 or earlier, turn on Press Home for Siri. Your Apple Watch mirrors your iPhone, so you don’t need to check your watch.
  3. On your Apple Watch, see if Hey Siri is turned on. Tap Settings > Siri.
  4. Restart your Apple Watch.
  5. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Siri & Search and turn off Listen for "Hey Siri." Then turn it on again.
  6. See if the microphone or speaker on your Apple Watch is blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
  7. If Siri doesn't speak on Apple Watch Series 3 or later, you might need to download its voice. The download happens when you’re on Wi-Fi and your Apple Watch is charging. To give the download time to complete, try charging your Apple Watch overnight. To check the status of the download on your Apple Watch, tap Settings > Siri, then scroll to Siri Voice. Learn which languages Siri speaks.

If Siri still doesn't respond, contact Apple Support."

Regards.

Have you been able to resolve the problem?

I’ve had the same problem occur in October 2022. I’ve spoken to six different agents, and will be getting my seventh call this afternoon from one of their senior advisors. I even sent my watch to their tech support centres and they stated there was nothing wrong with the hardware. I keep telling the service representatives that it appears software related. Interestingly enough, the same problem is occurring with my wife’s Apple Watch 7/iPhone 11. I have Apple Watch 6/IPhone 12.

My discussion with Apple technical support indicates is that it now appears the problem is due to a software update.

I even went to the Apple Genius Bar when I was in Toronto. The Apple representative tried adding a song to their own playlist through their watch, and were unsuccessful.

My daughter is able to add songs on her playlist using her watch. Her Apple Watch has software version 8.4.1. My software version is 9.1.
