App store crashes on startup; preferences apple id pane cannot load

I have an M1 Macbook Pro running Monterey 12.6. App Store crashes when I try to start it. The window appears for less than a second, then it crashes. Also, when I click the Apple ID icon in System Preferences, it tells me that it "could not load the Apple ID preference pane." I've booted in Safe Mode with the same results. I've also tried removing App Store cache and preferences, but it still doesn't work. However, it did work when I created a new account and tried it from that account. So there must be something wrong with my account. Any ideas regarding what it could be about my account that could be causing this? Any files and/or directories I should be examining or deleting?

Thanks!

Greetings Sleepy_Tiger,

Since the issue is isolated to a single user account, begin by removing any login items for that account.

Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

"Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

Login items are apps that open automatically when you start up or log in to your Mac. Occasionally, a login item may cause a blank blue screen at startup or other problems. You can test your login items to see if any are causing startup issues on your Mac.

Note: To print these instructions, press Command-P.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups .
  2. Click your account name below Current User, then click Login Items at the top of the window.
  3. Make a list of the login items—you’ll need to remember them later.
  4. Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .
  5. Choose Apple menu > Restart.
  6. If this solves the problem, open Users & Groups preferences again, add the login items one at a time, and restart your Mac after adding each one.
  7. When the problem occurs again, follow the steps above to remove only the last login item you added."

Take care.

Thanks, Bryan_K1. It has something to do with my Apple account. I installed an app called "mas" that provides a command-line interface to a few of App Store's functions. I used mas to sign out from the App Store. Then I used it to launch App Store. That worked. However, when I logged in to my account in App Store, it crashed. I can log into my Apple account on the Apple site, so I'm still not certain what's wrong with my account.
