Problem uploading jpegs from a Mac to iCloud

I have been successfully uploading about 4000 jpeg files to the iCloud website. This has stopped working and I get the error message "Uploading folders isn't supported. Only files in JPEG format can be uploaded".

On the surface this makes no sense to me. The jpeg files were stored in folders on the Mac but they were copied and pasted into the iCloud website. I can't even copy and paste, or drag and drop a single jpeg to the iCloud website now. Any thoughts. would be appreciated please.

Hello perspec,

Does that still persist after restarting your Mac? Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.

If so, does this occur with multiple web browsers?

Additionally, if those photos are in your Photos library, you can also use the steps below to sync with iCloud:

1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
2. Click Apple ID.
3. Click iCloud in the sidebar, then select Photos.

If you have an earlier version of macOS, go to System Preferences > iCloud. Click Options next to Photos, then select iCloud Photos.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support
