You wouldn't be able to open and play the editable iMovie 6 project unless you had the iMovie 6 app on your Mac.

If you don't have it, one option would be to see if you can purchase iMovie 6 through the iLife 6 package on Amazon or Ebay.

A workaround would be to play the .mov file that iMovie 6 creates within its project. You can access it by Control-clicking on the iMovie 6 project icon and then clicking on the Show Package Contents in the drop down menu. That will reveal this:

Under Shared Movies/iDVD you will see the .mov file that iMovie 6 created. It will play in the Show Package Contents window with QuickTimePlayer 7 (not 10), but not on the desktop unless you do the following: Control-Click on its icon and, from the drop down menu that appears, click on Encoded Selected Assets. Wait for awhile for it to re-encode (it might take a while.) When the encoding is finished you will see the encoded movie as an additional movie in the Show Package Contents. Drag the re-encoded movie to your desktop and then you can play it in QuickTimePlayer 10.
