Apple Music and FLAC Files

Can Apple Music still not read FLAC files?

It's October 2022 and this would be for current Apple Music 1.2.5.7.

Thanks!

Thanks Jim.

As a workaround I'm able to use VLC to play FLAC files and oddly Apple's QuickTime as well. Odd that Apple's other products like QuickTime work, but not Apple's primary Music application.

Apple Music's Product team really needs to get with the program and improve their product. Apple Music's interface is primitive and Apple Music still can't play standard file formats like FLAC.

As posted in 2011 in the thread FLACs in iTunes - Apple Community :

"[Y]ou can submit your FLAC suggestion to Apple. Based on what I've seen on this Forum, you will be approximately the 500,000th person to do so."

On this Forum we cannot speculate on Apple's reason for not supporting FLAC. But as Jim notes they do provide the option of a different (also open-source) compressed lossless format, namely ALAC.
