Bookmarks keep disappearing

I have been using Mac for 25 years, and have been using Safari since it was first released. But I am totally fed up with it.

I use Safari for all my research, and have thousands and thousands of bookmarks organised carefully into folders and subfolders. Safari keeps deleting whole folders of bookmarks, so that I am losing many days of valuable research.

This may be because I have too many bookmarks. I read somewhere that there is a limit of 25,000 bookmarks. That may seem like a lot, but it's very likely I am exceeding that. But if this is the problem, why can't the application just give me a warning. And bookmarks hardly take up any space. The total file size of my bookmarks.plist is 36 Mb, about the size of a handful of photos!

I need to find an alternative as I am totally fed tip with this browser.

Greetings, MagicRW.

If your bookmarks have been deleted, you can try to restore them using the steps below:

“Restore your contacts or bookmarks from an earlier version

  1. From your iPad or computer, sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Click your name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Account Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Under Advanced, click Restore Contacts or Restore Bookmarks.
  4. Click Restore next to the date before you deleted the content.
  5. Click Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you'll get a notification on iCloud.com and an email to the address on file with your Apple ID.” If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud

If the issue continues, Contact Apple Support for additional steps to resolve the issue.

Best wishes.
