Can't copy to clipboard in Notes app

It seems that after working in the Notes app for a while, I can't Copy/Cut to the clipboard. What's on the clipboard seems like some arbitrary string (object) from the current note in the app. This is what gets pasted from the clipboard when you do Paste. You could go to a different app (e.g., Reminder) and can copy to the clipboard fine so it is something to do with the Notes app not able to update the clipboard (or more like always updating the clipboard with the some arbitrary string instead of the Copy/Cut string). You could workaround this by opening a note in a separate window (by double clicking it) and Copy/Cut work there. If I quit the Notes app entirely and bring it back up - that works too.
