Image Capture won’t import from iPhone

Since I got my iPhone 14Pro, Image Capture has stopped importing photos. I get an error message. I can Air Drop them to the iMac. I just tried importing from my old iPhone 12Pro, which worked fine with Image Capture, but I now get an error message with the other phone, so something has happened to the Image Capture app. I can’t delete Image Capture and download a fresh version. Any ideas on how to fix Image Capture? I tried using Image Capture with my scanner and get an error message there, too. I have an older iMac running Mojave. I have Monterey running on a mounted volume and there doesn’t seem to be a problem there.

The error message reads:. The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9956.) (-9956).

Any info appreciated

backup your hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper to an external hard drive as a clone if you haven't already.

Then attempt to run command-R recovery boot to reinstall Mojave.

If it attempts to install anything other than Mojave, you can download the Mojave installer from

If Image Capture fails to load correctly, you an attept to boot off the computer in safe mode (shift key), and use the Go menu -> Go To Folder and select ~/Library/Preferences

Remove com.apple.imagecapture.plist and try reopening it after reboot.

Do not touch anything else in that folder.
