Dictate text on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 12 mini. Since update to ios16, I have not been able to use dictation at all.

My keyboard is set to English US. "Enable Dictation" is on. "Press Side Button for Siri" is on. "Listen for "Hey Siri" is off. Siri Language is "English (United States)."

When I tap the dictation icon, the phone makes the "ding" sound indicating dictation is active and a "end dictation" button (microphone with an X next to it) appears next to the field I am trying enter text into. But no text appears as I speak.

If I tap the "end dictation" button (or the dictation button in the lower right corner of the screen, which should have the same effect), a circling "wait" icon appears in the text entry field, as if the dictation feature was processing my audio. After a few seconds, that wait icon disappears, but no text is entered.

I have tried changing the language on Siri to something else and back to English United States.

I have tried changing the keyboard to something else and back to English US.

What is the solution to this problem?

Wanted to add...so I had heard about others switching the languages from English (US) to English (UK) for both the keyboard and Siri. Indeed switching to English (UK) on the keyboard worked but its not a real solution since they use different spellings. That being said (and I know this isn't too technical) but I switched through all the English options, (India, Canada, Australia) and after going through all just for the keyboard...it somehow fixed the English (US) setting for both the keyboard and Siri. Mind you simply going once from English (US) to English (UK) and back to English (US) wasn't enough. Some combination of trying all them "fixed" something somehow as both are now working for me again. Come on Apple, you have to do better than this!
