Noise app for Apple Watch 8 not working.

The microphone symbol on my new Apple Watch 8 seems to cross itself out randomly. When I try to open the noise app, it says that measurement has been suspended because either the water lock is on or the microphone is currently in use.

The water lock is not on, dictation is allowed and everything else in the settings seems normal. It usually works for an hour then turns itself off.

I would like to use the noise app regularly for work, but I can’t seem to control when it works or doesn’t work.

Turning the watch off then back on works, but only for another hour until it stops working again. I also tried to talk to Siri and she doesn’t recongnize me. Voice to text doesn’t work either when this happens.

do you think something is wrong with the microphone on this new watch?

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Apple Watch Series 8. Have you tried restarting your iPhone since noticing this behavior? You'll definitely want to start there as this can address the issue you're facing: Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support


"How to restart your Apple Watch if you have watchOS 9

  1. If your Apple Watch is charging, take it off the charger.
  2. Press and hold the side button until you see the power button  in the upper-right corner of the display.
  3. Tap the power button.
  4. Drag the Power Off slider.
  5. After your watch turns off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo."
